This weekend there has been a global cyber attack, dubbed WannaCry virus. At least 150 countries have reported cases of it and over 200.000 computers have been affected since this weekend. Right now I do my internship in an IT support company where the telephone is ringing constantly and our mailboxes are overflowing with mails from people who have been hit by it. So I kinda feel obliged to inform you guys of it and what it could do to you.
What is it? This virus is not a virus that you can just run your anti-virus or anti-malware program on and quarantine it. Most virusses download dangerous programs on your computer or record your actions to get access to your personal data. But this virus is of another kind, because the attackers have no interest in your data, they just want to make easy money.
They do this by making use of ransomware or more specifically a cryptolocker. A cryptolocker encrypts all your data and files on your computer and connected devices, which means you cannot access those files anymore and use them. Unless you got the decryption key. To get that decryption key, the cyber attackers ask you to pay $300, but there is no guarantee that you’ll actually get the decrypt key and get your files back.
Remedy? There is not real remedy. Once you get a cryptolocker in your system, you are screwed, unless you have backups and these backups are not connected to your system. (offline backups or in another domain)
Targets? Anybody can be a target, but right now the big ones are companies who have older systems like Windows XP, because they don’t have the same security measures as the newer systems. Now you might think: ‘Who still has Windows XP?’ Well, hospitals for example. They still use software that is made for their machinery and hasn’t been updated to newer versions. So if they get one in their system, people who rely on these machines can actually die.

Hello! Before I start telling about my opinions about this, I really don’t know if you had any help from people in TS3 and TS2 communities to get it circulated around all the sims communities so apologies if I had no idea. However, I’d like to point out that these statistics seem biased (also 439 people isn’t enough). It’s not realistic that 1% of the people prefer to read only stories made from TS2 and it obviously shows that that the survey barely got to TS2 community.
We did learn about statistical bias in secondary schools and that we are not supposed to take survey in one location. For instance, if you asked people at a coffee shop about their favourite drinks, most of answers are likely to be ‘coffee’ or anything similar to that and it wouldn’t reflect the whole population in this town. It’s advisable to take surveys in different locations. You can do the same thing online – like I said, maybe you can have help from people who are in TS3 and TS2 communities to spread the survey.
And here’s an advice for writers out there, don’t ever listen to what genre you should write about (obviously, this statistics isn’t telling you what to do but some people seem to use this as a guide). So, don’t write for your followers or for notes, write what you want to write, or you will most likely to write crap. Feel free to write about Sci-Fi if that’s what you really want to. 🙂
I made a survey once, it wasn’t about reader preferences, but about their favorite game, and the sims 2 is the favorite one, followed by the sims 3 and far behind, the sims 4 ( the sims 1 and the sims 4 are very far behind, but it’s isn’t a surprise because the sims 1 is quite old and the sims medieval is different ).
I posted it everywhere ( tumblr, facebook, French and English groups , forums , French and English ones ).
About your survey, I agree with some voters about the grammar and spelling, but a few mistakes are acceptable, I read some stories with misspelled words, and they are great, even better than some stories with a perfect grammar and perfect spelling.
However ten misspelled words in a sentence isn’t acceptable…
For the pictures… I agree beautiful pictures are a lot better than blurry ones, but it depends of the computer, low graphic card = bad pictures.
Some voters are a bit rude.
In my case I’m illiterate, then that explains why nobody will like my stories.

No challenges, no legacies, no stories with the premades, and no ingame stories, I’ve read a lot of stories like this and most of them are good, but I want something different, but it’s hard to find sims 2 stories….sims 2 is my fav sims game.
