Since the disastrous launch of the Sims 4, the closing of Maxis Emeryville, and the reorganization of the studio lumping Maxis in with the mobile division has left many fans wondering if The Sims 4 was the last iteration of the series for the pc.
In the wake of the latest round of layoffs – u/fashionPolice2001 – a user claiming to be a former guru confirms work on The Sims 5 never began:
We usually started the next iteration immediately after shipping the
basegame, but when we finished TS4 this never happened. Still today
there has been no work started on TS5.He [Daniel Hiatt] didn’t leave, he got laid off, along with a slew of other Sims 4
developers. It’s the beginning of the end for the studio for sure. Sims
Mobile is a total failure, there is no development on Sims 5 and the
creative leadership are no longer around. They will try to pump out as
many mediocre packs for Sims 4 as long as they can and will eventually
close down the entire studio.Yes, they are making money, but the question is how much vs how much
developing it would cost. Also, they don’t have any of the core creative
leadership left who could come up with a great concept for Sims 5.
After Will Wright it’s been mostly rehashed ideas, so what would you
expect from a Sims 5? Won’t happen.Filed under rumor and speculation for now.
